I work right now quite a lot with openID and therefore my wishlist of services which should support an openID login- and I mean login, not provider-only - is growing every day. I wish the following services would have one:
Twitter
FriendFeed
Facebook
LinkedIn
Xing
Ning
MobileMe
Slideshare
Upcoming
Brightkite
Amazon
Google
Youtube
Flickr
Vimeo
… and all the forums I use from time to time.
… and all site which let me leave a comment
… and all the sites asking to fill out any form
Then my daily online life would be much easier.
Right now I use my openID already for the following services:
noserub
ma.gnolia
PBwiki
dopplr
mixxt
claimID
wordpress
myvidoop
backpack.it
highrise
So I would say, that there is still a lot of room for improvements. And dear website providers - look at who all is now (or in the near future) an openID provider … the chicken-egg situation is more or less over, with all those giants becoming openID providers right now.
It’s time to get started with finally implementing openID logins and with teaching the users, how they can use it and what the benefit is :D

This podcast and blog post is in German. In this episode I talk again about collaboration in virtual worlds and share my recent progress and thoughts with you.

This podcast and blog post is in German. In this episode I talk with Klaas from the German agency Pixelpark about Mobile-Tagging. He wrote a whitepaper about it last year and knows quite a lot about it.
In my podcast I recently talked about my purpose to starting using virtual worlds together with my customers as a platform for collaboration to reduce the need of real-life meetings. In this podcast I elaborated which meetings I usually do with my clients, which of them I could do in a virtual world and which requirements those meetings would have.
One of these meetings are brainstormings. The last week I started to do some experiments with Qwaq and had a first client, who was determined to do a brainstorming within Qwaq about how (or even if) we could use virtual worlds for those kind of meetings and we came up with the conclusion, that it could really have some great advantages compared to a real-life meetings - even apart from avoiding traveling! This podcast and blog post is in German. In this episode I talk about my musings regarding a definition for the metaverse. I talk about virtual worlds, mirror world, augmented reality, lifelogging and more related topics.
The Electric Sheep company announced yesterday a new in-house product called WebFlock, which sounds like a nice framework to create web based virtual environments. ESC describes their product as following:
WebFlock is an application for private-labeled, Web-based virtual experiences. It provides a visually immersive environment for social interaction, media consumption and game play.
At its core, the tool lets the Sheep create entirely white-label, Flash-based, download-free (past the Flash plug-in) environments for socializing, casual games, and media consumption
And I totally agree with Verbecks (CEO of ESC) in his opinion, that a lot of clients already see the benefit of avatar based, virtual environments, but that ”There just was not a platform where you could easily create that and get a large adoption very quickly from the user base.”
Of course there are a lot of platforms already, who are operating in the web-based area. But all of them had so far at least one of two disadvantages:
They see themselves as a closed community, which wants to get as much users a possible, without thinking of white-labeling their product.
They still rely on a plugin technology, which means a software download (even if it’s very small) and therefore means a barrier, which will cost - everybody who will use their technology - users.
Well - of course a lot of people (especially Second Life enthusiasts) will now stand up and say, that WebFlock is pretty limited and not comparable to other solutions on the market.
And of course: it’s not - but as I have pointed out already in this post, for a lot of meaningful usage scenarios for corporations you don’t need a massive immersive, flexible, “all-rounder” virtual world like Second Life.
Quite a lot of benefits from the perspective of a corporation and also from the perspective of a casual user, are already coverable with technologies and platforms, which are much less complex in many different ways. As it looks like for me, ESC decided to use the technology which will reach the greatest audience - Flash - and implemented as many aspects of a social virtual avatar based environment as possible.
So as you might notice I am pretty enthusiastic and optimistic about the announcement of WebFlock, because from all what I have experienced in the last two years, thats exactly the piece which was missing, to get again a lot of different and interesting projects running in the realm of virtual worlds.
The Future of Corporate Websites gesprochen.

This podcast and blog post is in German. In this episode I talk about my plans to start collaborating with my clients in virtual worlds. Collaboration in virtual worlds is a big topic - there are already quite a few solutions on the market and I guess it’s now a good time to start playing around with the possibilities.
In this episode I talk about why I want to use those platforms, what kind of meetings I want to do and what therefore the requirements are for those.
Today I started to play around with Project Wonderland (weblog) because it’s in my eyes one of the most promising projects in the realm of future intraverses. It’s a open source project from Sun, which has been build upon different components (like the Project Darkstar) which already existed before and it has all in all a very nice system architecture. This podcast and blog post is in German. In this episode I talk about my idea to create an openID based persona creator. It’s again about the issue, that publishers try to collect data from us, but that I see the bigger potential in simply asking us and we provide them with different personas.
I guess something like that could be realized with open ID and in this context I also talk about all kind of Targeting, AttentionTrust.org, Microformats and a lot of other buildings blocks.
